Museum Singer (Laren, Netherlands) is a pleasant and not too big museum and is ideally suited for a beautiful exhibition like this one: Kees van Dongen.
Kees van Dongen (1877-1968) was born in Delftshaven, grew up in Rotterdam and at the age of 15 he followed lessons in the evening at The Academy of Visual Arts and Technical Sciences (translated), nowadays know as The Willem de Kooning Academy.
In 1995 he was already able to earn a living as a draughtsman and another 2 years later he settled in Paris to learn further.
Soon he became a celebrated artist and his success is due to his affiliation with Fauvism. But also because of his pure use of colours and he often used electric light, which was not common in those days.
Many famous people like artists, politicians, movie stars visited his great studio parties. A smart way to connect with those potential buyers of his works.
As shown hereby you can see how he evolved and created the paintings by which his fame is well-known all over the world: female models with the big eyes. A recognizable and unique style, next to the problably hundreds of drawings, graphic works and other paintings from Kees van Dongen.
