Hyperrealism Sculpture
The last time I met the almost living sculptures of Duane Hanson, John DeAndrea or Jeff Koons was more than 10 years ago in Germany, Aachen, Ludwig Forum.
Kunsthal Rotterdam gave those human sculptures literally more dimension and space.
Curious visitors who came in large numbers which made this exhibition to a great success.
Here we met Mel Ramos and his Chiquita Girl, the huge baby girl of Ron Mueck, Sam Jinks, John DeAndrea ofcourse, Daniel Firman, Paul McCarty and more.
Hanson and DeAndrea started to created livelike and vivid human figures in the 1960’s en 70’s. These sculptures provoked reactions from the visitors. How did they see theirselves. A long time before the ‘selfie’…
Number of artists like Mueck, Sijan and Jinks started in 1990’s to enlarge or reduce the dimensions of their figures. With these deformations the viewer is forced to observe it from strange perspectives. Like the huge 5 meters long baby from Mueck, which is spectactular.
This exhibition showed an unique selection of 50 years hyperrealism in sculptures. Kunsthal did a great job.
