Ludwig Forum, Aachen (Germany)

Impression of mostly permanent collection of the Ludwig Forum, AACHEN. Work of many modern artists like Jeff Koons, Allen Jones, John de Andrea, Duane Hanson and Robert Graham.

What do these artists have in common? Ludwig Forum (für internationale Kunst) aimed there collection at the classics of Pop Art, Graffiti Art, Leipzig School. All together a timestamp of the 60’s where real art was no longer a possession of Europe, Paris, Berlin, Cobra, but moved to New York. The “new Americans”, amongst others was Andy Warhol, whose status was interwoven with the great collectors.
When Peter Ludwig travelled to New York in 1970 to meet Duane Hanson, he bought works like “The supermarket lady” and started to expand the collection and bring it to East Germany (GDR) and Eastern Europe. The state had partially a say in the choice of works. That implicated that modern works could be found next to classic historically relevant paintings.

A  number of art works are owned by the City of Aachen. These works are part of the inhouse stock, also 300 works of video art by top class international artists.
